Support for Community Gardens

Distribution of community gardens around Wellington (403KB PDF)

Wellington City Council funding

Community gardens may fall under either the Social and Recreation Grant Fund, or the Our Living City Grant Fund.

Our Living City Fund
The fund supports projects and activities like community conservation projects, community gardens, green infrastructure (living walls and roofs), resilience to natural events, and emission reduction.

Social and Recreation Fund
This fund aims to foster strong, sustainable communities and support building capacity in the community.

There are three funding rounds each year, see the Funding Calendar for closing dates.

Leasing land

The Council leases land to community groups to set up community gardens.
