Parking officers

If you enjoy working outside, keeping fit, and interacting with lots of different people, then become a parking officer.

Our Parking Services team play an important part in helping to keep Wellington moving. They’re ambassadors for our capital city, supporting positive public relations.

Parking officers help the public to understand the parking system and promote compliance with city parking rules using appropriate enforcement procedures.

They manage the turnover of parking spaces and ease the safe movement of people and goods around the city.

Close-knit team

Parking Services are a fun, close-knit team from different backgrounds. They have a home base where they catch up over table tennis, chess, and other activities. They’re all energetic, fit, and customer-focused people who really enjoy working outdoors – they say the city is their office.

You are likely to love this role if you’re able to interact with a wide range of people, like keeping fit, and can work in all climates.

Some of the team are in permanent full-time roles and others are part time.

Training and development

Parking officers are provided with uniforms for all weather, including boots and technical equipment.

They take part in an in-depth and supportive onboarding and induction programme. This includes practical and theoretical training, such as First Aid and NZQA qualifications.

There is the chance to progress into senior roles and other opportunities within the Parking Services team and the Council. Find out about the Council's employee benefits and opportunities.
