Homegrown 101

With Jim Beam Homegrown 2023 coming to the capital this Saturday 18 March, there are a few changes along the waterfront to make way for this popular event.

  • The skateboarding bowl in Waitangi Park will be closed from 8am Friday 17 March until 12pm Sunday 19 March.
  • The Harbourside Market will be relocated to the Reading car park area (access via Tory and Wakefield Streets) on Sunday 19 March. Both Reading car parks will be used for the market so there’ll be no parking available there.
  • On event day, Saturday 18 March, from 11am-12 midnight cyclists and scooter riders will be required to either slow down or dismount in the area due to the high number of pedestrians.
  • Flamingo and Beam Scooters/E Bikes will not operate on the Waterfront during event time.

Access to the Wellington Waterfront will be available to the general public, but with some areas restricted solely for contractors and/or ticket holders:

  • Waitangi Park: restricted access until Thursday 23 March
  • Barnett Street Car Park: restricted access until Wednesday 22 March
  • Waitangi Stream Promenade from Cable Street to Waitangi Stream Bridge: restricted access until Wednesday 22 March
  • Odlins Plaza: restricted access until Wednesday 22 March
  • Upper Frank Kitts Park: restricted access until Thursday 23 March
  • Lower Frank Kitts Park: restricted access until Wednesday 22 March

There will be some traffic management measures in place during the evening of Saturday 18 March to assist crowds exiting the event.

All dates and times will be pushed out by 24 hours if bad weather (high winds not rain) cause the event to be postponed until Sunday 19 March.

Please note that when you leave the stages there is a liquor ban on the waterfront and neighbouring streets and you could be fined up to $250. Finish your drink before you leave the stage and do not bring your own alcohol down to the Wellington Waterfront.

With One Republic also playing a gig at TSB Arena on Saturday, it’s going to be big night in town so it’s important to stay safe and look after your mates. Take 10 will be in their usual spot in Courtenay Plaza offering water, lollies and support to anyone who needs it. You can drop in, charge your phone, play some games and chill for a bit – they’re there to make sure everyone is staying safe while having a good time in town.

We encourage everyone to use public transport or walk, ride, scoot or car share to avoid parking frustration during this busy time. If you do drive, remember to Drive Safe, Drive Sober.
