Friday Five: Things to do this Queen's Birthday Weekend

1. Meet the new lemurs on the block 

This Queen's Birthday weekend the Queens of the Jungle, the new ring-tailed lemurs will be in their new habitat at Wellington Zoo. To celebrate, they have fun lemur-themed activities, every day this long weekend. 

There will be special lemur talks at 11.30am and 2.30pm and lemur activities from 2pm-2.30pm from Saturday through to Sunday. 

2. Wellycon is coming to town  

New Zealand's largest and friendliest board gaming event is coming to the Indian Association Hall in Kilbirnie this Saturday and Sunday, 5-6 June.

With a board game library of over 1100 games, hundreds of board gamers to meet, fun for all ages, and chances to win – there’s something for everyone.

3. Kia Mau Festival 

The Kia Mau festival kicks off this Friday 4 June with an incredible programme of contemporary Indigenous live performances and experiences at theatres around Te Ūpoko o te Ika a Maui (Wellington).

4. Get hands-on at HandMade

From macrame to bookbinding to infusing your own gin, the annual HandMade festival invites you to get creative and hands-on this Queen's Birthday Weekend.

5. Take home a work of art 

The NZ Art Show is back in Wellington this weekend for its 18th year! Be inspired by bold and beautiful art from more than 150 artists across Aotearoa, and then take your favourites home.

Jervois Quay storm water repair

When travelling around the CBD this weekend please be aware that Jervois Quay will be closed so multiple crews from Wellington Water can work to replace the damaged stormwater pipe beneath the road.  

All six lanes will be closed from Thursday 3 June after peak evening traffic and reopen early on Tuesday 8 June, before morning peak traffic. Wellington Water is encouraging drivers to avoid the area and use alternative travel options where possible.  

For those attending the NZ Art Show and other waterfront events, parking is available under the TSB Arena which will be accessible via Lady Elizabeth Lane, opposite Whitmore Street.
