Closures and detours, Jervois Quay this Queen’s Birthday weekend

From 7pm Thursday 3 June to 6am Tuesday 8 June all six lanes of Jervois Quay in the Wellington CBD will be closed from Taranaki Street to Whitmore Street (northbound) and from Whitmore Street to Willeston Street (southbound).

Southbound detours will be in place along Featherston Street, Hunter Street, Victoria Street and Willeston Street and northbound drivers will have a range of options along Lambton Quay, The Terrace and SH1.

For those attending the NZ Art Show and other waterfront events, parking is available under the TSB Arena which will be accessible via Lady Elizabeth Lane, opposite Whitmore Street.

Delays and congestion are expected, and we encourage people to avoid driving in the area and use public transport, walk and/or cycle where possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience you experience while we complete the work to replace the pipe, ensure the road is safely reinstated and reduce the risk of flooding of the CBD.

Work this week includes:

  • One lane southbound closed and traffic management in place to allow for the installation of a new, 1200mm pipe near the TSB bank arena that will eventually join to the 750mm pipe being installed across Jervois Quay.
  • Overnight preparatory work on the road, including uplifting the traffic island, cutting out and removing the concrete layer under the road, identifying all the services under the road (things like gas pipes, power and fibre cables), and reinstating the road ready for work to start.

Wellington Water will keep the public and community updated as the project progresses.
