Friday Five: Ways to float your boat this Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is this weekend. A time to be romantic... or not. Whatever your pleasure, if you’re in the city there’s lots to do! Here's our top five picks.

1. Animals

Valentine’s Night at Wellington Zoo | Sunday 14 February | 5-8.30pm

Celebrate Valentine’s Day in a memorable way this year by treating your loved one to Valentine’s Night at Wellington Zoo. The Zoo will be open until 8.30pm for adults only (18+), with live music from Equinox 3, an outdoor bar, and special love-themed animal talks and experiences. There will also be special Zoo offers available on the night, so join us for a very special evening this Valentine’s Night!

Zealandia Valentine’s Night Tour | Sunday 14 February | From dusk

Explore the Zealandia sanctuary by torchlight as your guide leads you in search of some of the more distinctive sights and sounds of New Zealand’s native forest.

Six60 | Sky Stadium | Saturday 13 February | From 5pm

After the success of their tour last summer, the band are bringing 'SIX60 SATURDAYS 2021' to Welllington and will be joined by Drax Project, Dave Dobbyn, JessB and AACACIA on stage. Tickets are on sale through Ticketek

Island Bay Festival Day | Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February

The Island Bay Festival started in 1985 and is one of Wellington's longest-running festivals. Showcasing the talent and diversity of the South Coast, this annual two-day summer festival is held every February.

Wellington Wine and Food Festival | Waitangi Park | Saturday 13 February | 11am-7pm

The Wine and Food Festival brings together the best of local cuisines, matched with local wineries and breweries that reflect the best of summer – sun, outdoors, fine wine, delicious food, great music, and fun with friends.

4. Arts and Fireworks

What if the City was a Theatre? | Wellington CBD | Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February

What if the City was a Theatre? is a free city-wide programme of art and performance, curated in collaboration with some of Wellington’s most exciting artists, events, and creative organisations.

Chinese New Year Festival and Fireworks | Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February

Chinese New Year is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar and is often referred to as the Spring Festival. A major holiday in many Asian cultures, Chinese New Year’s Day to welcome in the Year of the Ox falls on 12 February 2021 and Wellington’s Chinese New Year celebrations will take place on the weekend of 13-14 February.

Cricket T20 final | Basin Reserve | Saturday 13 February | 12.10-7.30pm

It's another Dream 11 Super Smash Grand Final. The Firebirds have qualified and the Blaze are one win away from making it a second successive double-header grand final.
