Tomorrow (Saturday 17 February), the Chinese New Year Parade will be staged through Te Aro, starting just before 2pm. The parade will start in Tennyson Street and head down Cambridge Terrace, Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street before ending on Taranaki Street Wharf.
Traffic heading along arterial routes including Cambridge Terrace and Taranaki, Wakefield and Cable streets will experience delays – so motorists are advised to take alternative routes, including the motorway and the Terrace Tunnel.
On Sunday 18 February there’ll be extensive road closures from 6.30am to 1pm to allow the running of the Cigna Round the Bays event. The southbound lanes of Customhouse and Jervois Quay will be closed to traffic till 11am, along with Cable Street. Oriental Parade and Evans Bay Parade will also be closed till 11am and 12 noon respectively.
State Highway 1 traffic will be diverted through Kilbirnie due to the closures of Cobham Drive between Evans Bay Parade and the Troy Street roundabout, and the closure of Wellington Road between Kilbirnie Crescent and Evans Bay Parade.
Motorists should expect delays through this area.
Motorists are advised to add time to their journeys if they’re to get to and from the eastern and southern suburbs. People trying to get to and from the airport should think about taking the ‘long way round’ via the south coast and Island Bay or Brooklyn.
