Some disruption for motorists and pedestrians can be expected as the work is carried out by two crews – one starting from the Railway Station terminal at the northern end of Lambton Quay, and the other starting at the Elizabeth Street intersection with Kent Terrace and Cambridge Terrace.
Removal work will occur Sunday-Thursday between the hours of 7pm-5am. There will be no removal work on Friday and Saturday evenings to allow for busy times – particularly in Courtenay Place.
It is planned for the two crews to complete the removal of the overhead network by 25 January 2018.
There will likely be temporary traffic disruptions or diversions at major intersections that serve as trolleybus route junctions including:
- Courtenay Place and Kent/Cambridge terraces
- Courtenay Place and Taranaki Street
- Manners Street and Willis Street
- Lambton Quay/Whitmore Street/Bowen Street.
Contractors have worked closely with Council’s Environmental Noise Officers to ensure minimal disruption in the area, including using battery operated machinery to reduce noise levels, and crews will finish each section in one evening to minimise disturbance to inner city residents.
