The new bus stop, outside Geeves Scaffolding at 92–96 Hutt Road, will replace the stop outside Animates on Hutt Road and the stop at the bottom of Kaiwharawhara Road.
Wellington City Council’s Portfolio Leader for Walking, Cycling and Public Transport, Councillor Sarah Free, says the change was approved by Councillors last year. It is part of improving transport for everyone along this busy commuter route and the ongoing upgrade of the Hutt Road bike path and footpath.
“We are combining the two bus stops into one new stop so buses can more easily and safely pull in and out of traffic and this will improve traffic flow for all commuters,” Cr Free said.
“We are also making changes to the Spotlight car park to create space for the footpath and bike improvements. The car park will be open as usual, but there will be some work going on as we reconfigure and remark the parking spaces a few at a time.”
Council contractors will create a temporary entrance and exit between the two existing driveways while they redo both driveways and provide judder bars to slow traffic crossing the paths.
The Council is now enforcing a no-parking restriction on the newly upgraded section of pathway between Spotlight and Aotea Quay overbridge.
