Wastewater main burst in central Wellington

A 300mm wastewater main has burst at the northern end of Victoria Street, in the vicinity of the Central Police Station, this morning.

Traffic is down to one lane and motorists are urged to avoid the area for the next few hours until the break is fixed.

A limited amount of dilute sewage has overflown into the Whairepo/Frank Kitts Park lagoon on the waterfront. People are urged to stay out of the water in the area until further notice.
