Sporting, cultural and foodie events happening during the week means there is something on for everyone, from horse racing at Trentham’s Wellington Cup Day to Pasifika and a piece of 3D artwork in between.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown is calling on everyone to have fun and support their chosen teams. “Rugby fans, sports enthusiasts, horse-racing punters, workmates, flatmates and families, this is a week-long festival for everyone in the capital, locals and visitors alike!”
From 26-29 January, fans will be able to unleash their superpowers at Rugby Sevens HQ through Level Up, Recharge and Refuel zones, complete with food trucks – making it the perfect location for your lunch break or school holiday activities in the summer sun.
Become a superhero and unleash your superpowers in the Green Screen Photo Booth, get active or entertained with seven-a-side touch tournaments, be drilled or test your skills with boot camps, line outs and drop goals. Take a drinks break or fuel up with tasty food truck treats, or relax in the Recharge zone on bean bags and listen to local bands.
Wellington Hospitality Group Director Jamie Williams says restaurants and bars are excited to be a part of HSBC Sevens, one of New Zealand’s most colourful and vibrant annual sporting events.
“We’re joining in the festivities with Queens Wharf Waterfront Summer Festival, 10 Days celebrating everything great about Wellington. There will be craft beer, food trucks, wine, live music, and entertainment. Sevens and BLACKCAPS games will be televised live on a 5 metre big screen all along Wellington's iconic waterfront.”
