Getting there
As with all popular events around the city, we encourage as many people as possible to take public transport, walk, bike or scoot to Gardens Magic.
There won't be any road closures for these events.
Check out the different ways of getting to the Botanic Garden on our transport website. This includes walking, car parking, biking, bus, and Cable Car information.
Public transport
The number 2 bus is a great way to get to the Botanic Garden. It stops right outside the main entrance and runs every 7 minutes.
Metlink train, bus, ferry and Cable car schedules
Alternatively, take the opportunity to walk up from the central city and smell the roses on the way as you pass through the Bolton Street Cemetery and Rose Garden. Or Cable Car up and stroll down through the gardens. Cable cars depart every 10 minutes from Cable Car Lane off Lambton Quay.

Additional transport options
We have put in place some additional Gardens Magic transport options:
Scooting
In partnership with Flamingo Scooters:
- A scooter convoy (Flamboyance of Flamingos) will leave the Railway Station at 6.30pm, Tuesdays – Sundays, 7-26 Jan, to ride to the Founders' Entrance at Botanic Gardens. Participation is free.
- There will also be a 15-minute discount code for anyone travelling to the Botanic Garden on a Flamingo.
- Official scooter parking spots:
- At the Founders’ Entrance of the Botanic Garden. Parking here generates rewards.
- At Wilson Carparking Ballantrae Place.
Biking
- If you're biking, try the new bike lane up Bowen Street from the city. Bicycle Junction is providing extra bike racks near the main entrance.
- A "Bike Bus", organised by Bicycle Junction, to some of our Gardens Magic concerts will depart from Waitangi Park at 5.30pm Fridays 10, 17 and 24 January. Join the fun!
Parking
- If you need to drive, be aware there is less parking than there used to be on Glenmore Street.
- Paid parking is available at the Lady Norwood Rose Garden, at the top of the Cable Car, Ballantrae Place, Clifton Terrace, Bolton Street and Mowbray Street.
- The Wilson car park at Ballantrae Place is offering a 20% discount after 5pm for Gardens Magic parking. Make sure you get the Parkmate App on your phone and keep an eye out for code, displayed at the payment booth in the carpark. The car park is about a 10-minute walk from the Botanic Garden.
