Mahau is a free, simple, interactive app to help residents and visitors to Wellington to get started on their reo Māori journey.

Tikiake i a Mahau mai i Google Play me iTunes.

Mahau helps beginners with te reo words and pronunciation of everyday phrases and sentences. It also focuses on Wellington destinations and place names, and provides a function to help the user build their pepeha and mihimihi.

We developed Mahau alongside Ngāti Toa Rangatira and Taranaki Whānui, and it includes sections of the dialects, and introductory information about the iwi.

At the launch of Mahau, guests were given seedlings from Berhampore Nursery as a symbol of the growth and flourishing we look forward to, for te reo in Pōneke. Wellington City Council has a goal for Wellington to be a bilingual capital city by 2040.
