Local Alcohol Policy Appeals

Status Closed
Start date 21 January 2014
Closed date 19 February 2014

Wellington’s Provisional Local Alcohol Policy was approved by City Councillors on 2 October 2013 following public submissions on its draft policy.

If you made a submission on the draft policy, you are entitled to make an appeal on the provisional policy before Wednesday 19 February.

The only basis on which you can appeal is that the provisional policy is unreasonable in light of the intent of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.

Send your notice of appeal to the Secretary, Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority, Tribunals Unit, Ministry of Justice, Private Bag 32-001, Wellington 6146 or drop a copy off at their office at level 1, 86 Customhouse Quay.

If you have any queries, phone (04) 462 6660 or email arla@justice.govt.nz

You must also send a copy to Wellington City Council’s Chief Executive, Wellington City Council, PO Box 2199, Wellington 6140.

Your appeal must:

  • be in writing
  • include your full name, street address, phone number and email address
  • clearly state which part of the provisional policy you’re appealing against and why this part is unreasonable in light of the Act
  • include a copy of the submission you made to the Council on the draft policy
  •  include the $450 fee required to lodge an appeal.
