Background information
Successful trails have been completed elsewhere in NZ (ie. Great Barrier Island) where over 4000 litter items were caught by catchers or traps over a set period. Ideally there would be no litter at all but if we have a goal of protecting our natural environment then concrete steps need to be taken to reduce the amount of litter entering our waterways. Conservation groups now collate data on litter clean ups to substantiate the impact.
