This petition requests Wellington City Council to reverse its decision to cancel the Guy Fawkes Day fireworks and celebrations.
This petition is not against Matariki celebrations but does not wish to see the cancellation of Guy Fawkes Day celebrations.
Background information
The council has a responsibility to keep people safe and it would be irresponsible to encourage people to light their own fireworks due to the lack of a public display.
The celebrations are a community event that brings people together. No Guy Fawkes celebrations would mean a lack of interaction within the community.
In November, the average rainfall and wind speed is lower and the average temperature is higher therefore resulting in ideal conditions for a public fireworks display.
