Petition details
The intention is to build an enormous concrete flyover alongside the Basin. This huge concrete construction will be around 10m tall, will cost (we estimate)more than $50m, and will completely ruin the Basin Reserve as a sporting and cultural venue. Traffic noise levels within the Basin will be about double what they are today. Pollution from traffic will blow across the Basin so the environment will be unpleasant. It will become significantly more polluted and noisy than it is today

Background information
The Basin Reserve is one of the world's iconic cricket grounds; New Zealand's oldest dedicated cricket pitch. It's an oasis of green space in the heart of the Capital. There is widespread community concern about the intention of 3 government agencies - New Zealand Transport Agency, Greater Wellington Regional Council, & the Wellington City Council, to build a huge concrete flyover across the northern side of the Basin Reserve, destroying the atmosphere of the Basin Reserve forever.
