Please sign to stop the Wellington City Council culling our city pigeons.

Petition details

The Wellington City Council has confirmed contractors to cull our city pigeons. Trapping, netting and shooting methods have been suggested. This is an extreme over-reactive decision. It is unnecessary; it is cruel and will result in injured and suffering adult birds and many starving orphaned fledglings. This decision was made quietly without a formal call for public submission and goes against our stance as an animal welfare nation. Please sign if you object to the severity of the action and the lack of consultation.

Background information

The Wellington City Ccouncil does not mention pigeons in any of their city plans. They have not given any opportunity for the public to have a say. They have no studies to base this decision on; they have not taken any expert opinion or tried anything else. They have steadily reduced the green areas in the city and do not clean the remaining ones to standard. They are ready to blame any complaints on the pigeons. They must be held accountable, not the pigeons.
