Wellington City Councillors declare a climate and ecological emergency and adopt the Te Atakura – First to Zero blueprint. The blueprint sets Wellington's ambition to become a net zero carbon capital by 2050.

Councillors adopt the Te Atakura – Implementation Plan to achieve our target.

Funding is granted through the Long-Term Plan 2021-31, to deliver on key action areas over the next 10 years.

Our 2021 update of the plan includes a target of a 57% reduction in emissions between 2020 and 2030.

Our 2024 update reports on progress in delivering the Te Atakura – First to Zero Implementation Plan adopted by the Council in 2020. There has been a significant reduction in the Council’s own emissions in the last financial year, while city emissions have reduced overall since 2020. More mahi is needed to achieve our net zero targets.
