Parking during construction

All on-street and slip lane parking on Victoria Street between Dixon and Abel Smith streets had to be removed while the upgrade work was in full swing.

On-street parking will remain scarce until all the work is complete in early July 2015 but parking spaces will gradually become available again from late June as work in different parts of the street is finished.

Northbound lane closure

The northbound lane between Vivian and Ghuznee streets closed to through traffic in early January 2015.

Since 26 January, the northbound lane between Ghuznee and Dixon streets has also closed to through traffic. You can still turn from Ghuznee Street to access businesses in this block and exit via Feltex Lane. Traffic management is in place.

St Peter’s (Care) Carpark adjacent to Gordon Harris and Warehouse Stationery's customer car park are still accessible from this direction.

Parking options

If you need to park in this part of Victoria Street, there are a number of off-street car parks that offer casual parking which could be worth trying. These include:

  • Farmers parking building, up the ramp off Victoria Street, store hours only. There’s also a few pay-and-display spaces next door in Wilson’s open air car park on the corner of Dixon Street. Read the signs as some parking spaces are private here.
  • St Peter’s (also known as the Care Carpark) is a pay-and-display, open air parking area near the intersection of Ghuznee and Victoria streets – enter off Victoria Street next to Warehouse Stationery. No casual parking on Sunday mornings.
  • Wilson car park is the big open air off-street car park at the corner of Victoria and Vivian streets where the Sunday fruit and vegetable market happens. Mondays to Saturdays only. Please use the Willis Street entrance if possible.
  • Leftbank Carpark – you now need to get to this Victoria Street parking building from Ghuznee Street (access is being provided using what is normally the exit-end of the slip lane).

The Marion Street car park is another option fairly close by.

For more city parking options, see Car Park Buildings and Areas.

Mobility parks

Two on-street mobility parks are still available on Victoria Street next to Farmers parking building. These are near the entrance to the slip lane in the block between Dixon and Ghuznee streets.

Be aware, these may have to be repositioned from time to time.

Short-stay parks

There are two new temporary P10 on-street car parks for drop-offs and pick-ups. These are on Ghuznee Street next to the exit from the Leftbank parking building.
