Sportsfield artificial turf refurbishments

The artificial turf at Wakefield Park and the National Hockey Stadium number two field is due for renewal and will be replaced this year.

Wakefield Park works consist of removing and replacing the artificial turf and infill material on the playing fields and warm up area. The fields will be closed from Thursday 6 October 2022 until January 2023 (subject to change).

The National Hockey Stadium field number two works consist of removing and replacing the artificial turf, installing a new shock pad and irrigation system. The field will be closed from Monday 3 October 2022 until January 2023 (subject to change).

To ensure our contractors have enough space to carry out the works safely and to store various materials and equipment, an area of the carpark at both facilities will be fenced off and will not be available until the project is complete.

The Council is working with its contractor to ensure as much of the existing artificial turf and infill is repurposed or recycled. If you are interested in acquiring some of the product please contact David Halliday to discuss further.

Background

All artificial turf fields are subject to wear and tear. The quality declines as a result of intensive use, which has an impact on the sports-related properties and safety. It is therefore important to ensure that the artificial turf is renewed in time.
