Ruahine Street Footbridge Strengthening

We are strengthening the Ruahine Street footbridge to make it safer for pedestrians.

The Ruahine Street footbridge in Hataitai connects pedestrians from the Hataitai Village to the Hataitai sports fields and requires strengthening to ensure it’s a safe structure for pedestrians to use.

The footbridge spans Ruahine Street/State Highway 1 (managed by NZTA) which is a busy urban arterial route to the Wellington Airport and the eastern suburbs.

Phase one of the footbridge strengthening work will start on Monday 22 June from 7:30am to 5pm there will be a road shoulder closure on State Highway 1.

Phase two will start on Sunday 5 July and will require the southbound lane to be closed for night works from 8:30pm – 5:30am with a diversion of the south bound State Highway 1 traffic onto Taurima Avenue, Moxham Avenue, Hamilton Road through to Wellington Road where the detour will end.

The footbridge will remain open throughout the works with no impact to pedestrians.
