Update: May 2022
The final step of this project (painting) will be completed at the end of the year 2022. The courts are available to be used in the winter months, but will be closed for 2-3 weeks in Spring to complete the painting.
About the project
The courts at Hataitai Park are in need of renewal which has led to this exciting project.
All courts will be levelled and resurfaced. To address drainage issues and cracks and trip hazards caused by the post sleeves, there will be a reduction and realignment of the tennis and netball courts.
All supporting infrastructure such as fencing, lighting and sports equipment will be renewed.
A sand court for beach handball and volleyball will be included in the scope of works. This will be constructed on the former netball court 2.

Timeline
Works onsite will take place over the summer period, October – March.
During this period the courts will be closed.
Background
The Hataitai courts are currently used for community grade netball and tennis and are well used by the regional sport organisations to run their respective leagues, tournaments, and events. The courts are also available for casual play.
Funding for the redevelopment was approved as part of the 2021-31 Long Term Plan. The overall budget for this project is $2 million.
Early engagement with the current facility hirers has resulted in a refined scope of works that meets the current and future demands.
