Berhampore traffic safety improvements

We are proposing to make traffic safety improvements in Britomart Street, Chilka Street and Palm Grove.

About the project

In early 2019, we engaged with the Berhampore community on what aspects of village upgrade are most important to them. The consultation identified that traffic safety improvements were a priority for the community.

To improve traffic safety in this area, the following changes are proposed:

Britomart Street

  • Raise the existing pedestrian crossing outside of Berhampore School
    Install three speed cushions

Chilka Street

  • Paint a white edge line down Chilka Street to encourage motorists to slow down
    Install ‘slow zone’ signs
Reinstate the raised crossing platform at the intersection to Adelaide Road

Palm Grove

  • Paint yellow cross-hatching at the intersection of Palm Grove and Adelaide Road to create a ‘keep clear’ area for turning traffic to merge into the lane.

Updates

September 2020

We are currently consulting with residents on Britomart Street on the placement of the three speed humps.

The construction phase is planned to begin in November and to be completed by late December.
