It's all about the Children in Civic Square

3 March 2016

Children are our taonga, and Children’s Day, on Sunday 6 March, is the perfect time for every one of us to stop and think about what we can do for the young people in our lives.

On Friday 4 March local schools and Wellington City Council will celebrate Children’s Day in Civic Square from 11am to 2pm. There will be a range of activities – from sport skills to egg ‘n’ spoon races, Push Play and face painting.

Deputy Mayor Justin Lester, who will attend the Friday activities, says it is important for the City Council to acknowledge the important role children play in making Wellington great. “We want to ensure Wellington is family-friendly. Our kids should be able to safely and confidently participate in Wellington’s events and activities so that they grow into confident young people that give back to the local community.”

The theme this year is Arohatia ā Tātou Tamariki, or “Treasure our children”.

New Zealand celebrates Children’s Day on the first Sunday in March and one of the most important things you can do for the children in your life is to give them your time - the best things in life are free
