This year the 2500 kilograms of exploding fireworks will be accompanied by a distinctive Kiwi soundtrack charting 21 years of hits – a popular song from each year the Sky Show has been in the capital. The track list includes everyone from Supergroove to Savage to Six60, and will be broadcast live on The Hits (90.1FM) and ZM (90.9FM). Robert and his team are extremely proud of how the Sky Show has evolved since its 1995 inception, and of the key position it now holds in Wellington’s busy calendar.
“PyroStar’s objective has always been to provide a major world-class event for the people of Wellington and visitors alike, says Robert “The Sky Show is the largest annual fireworks display in New Zealand, and we quite often hear stories from those who would watch the show with their parents and friends 20 years ago, and now enjoy taking their own kids to see the display. We’ve also employed and trained Wellingtonians to become professional Pyrotechnicians by instilling a high level of expertise and standards, so the Wellington Sky Show is a really special project for us”.
Deputy Mayor Justin Lester, says the Saturday show is popular with families and those who travel from outside the city to enjoy the spectacular display.
“The Sky Show is an incredible celebration of our magnificent harbour – like nothing else on offer in New Zealand. Every year my family and I look forward to seeing how the show is evolving, with bigger, more spectacular fireworks. PyroStar have designed a lot of these new effects especially for us here in Wellington, I think that’s pretty special.
“The weekend scheduling makes it a perfect night out too – you can come into the city early, enjoy the carnival rides in Waitangi Park, pick up something delicious for dinner, and find a good spot along the waterfront to take the show in”.
Sky Show enthusiasts can avoid parking woes by leaving home early or taking public transport. Motorists who don’t make it into town on time are reminded to resist temptation and avoid slowing down or stopping on the motorway to view the show.
The Sky Show rain date is Sunday 8 November.
