The Communities on Bikes fund supports projects that encourage and make it easier for people to ride bikes as an everyday transport choice – with $50,000 available this financial year in one funding round.
Projects can be events or activities, training programmes or infrastructure and equipment.
Applications are invited from organisations such as: clubs, community groups, residents’ associations, charities and youth groups.
Councillor Andy Foster, Transport and Urban Development Committee Chair, says Wellington is experiencing phenomenal growth in cycling.
“We are committed to supporting groups that encourage people to ride bikes and contribute to improving rider safety.
“This is one of the ways the Council is supporting cycling as a viable and safe mode of transport.
“Smart cities encourage and support people who use active modes of transport such as riding bikes.
“As well as the obvious health benefits, this is a sustainable transport mode that helps reduce congestion on our roads.
Applications must be received by 5pm Friday 9 October 2015 and decisions will be announced in mid-October.
A further $50,000 will also be available each year for the next two financial years.
