Burst of colour for Cable Car ride
12 June 2015
Passengers on Wellington’s Cable Car will be treated to dazzling bursts of colour when a permanent light display installed in the top and middle tunnels goes live from next Tuesday (16 June).
Developed by interactive lighting designer Angus Muir, the light show was commissioned following last year’s Power Plant temporary light show produced as part of the New Zealand Festival.
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says the response to the tunnel-light show was one of total delight and attracted wide attention.
“The light show will be a changing spectacle of colour with themes depicting events happening in Wellington from the World of Wearable Arts to Rugby Sevens, Christmas and Easter.
The new lights can be programmed with set routines to feature specific content for special events.
“The lights were popular during the New Zealand Festival with regular cable car passengers and visitors to the city,” she says. “Feedback on review sites such as Trip Adviser was very positive and we are confident the permanent display will continue to attract attention.”
The tunnel light show will happen every evening from 7pm to 9.30pm. The official opening will take place Monday (15 June) at 6pm.
