Opera House Lane hosts first LaneFest

1 December 2014

This Friday night (December 5), Opera House Lane comes alive with music, live street art and great food. Wellington’s first ever laneway festival, LaneFest, will take place between six and 10pm.

Headlining the event are the rising young rock stars of Wellington, Bakers Eddy, with a wide variety of other fantastic acts including Swifts & Sparrows, Groozy, VWO, Armada, Greater than III and Sait Believe.

Wellington City Council is supporting the youth focused event run by Zeal, in association with The Edge radio station. Deputy Mayor, Justin Lester, says it’s great to see Opera House Lane being used this way.

“The recent upgrade of Opera House Lane makes it the perfect place to hold this festival. While it still holds that inner city grungy feel, the addition of the interactive lighting projectors, chandelier and murals turn the Laneway into a unique setting. We need to use more of our urban laneways for events, like other cities do around the world.”

As well as music, some of Wellington's finest young visual artists will be on hand with live street art, creating pieces during the bands performances.  There’ll also be a variety of food from local vendors – including The Wellington Chocolate Factory and Six Barrel Soda.
