2014's Capital Christmas events

11 December 2014

From pop-up carols to a giftwrapped Cable Car, we’re bringing Christmas to the capital in a big way this year – and it doesn’t get much bigger than the Santa Parade.

Be in town at 2pm on Sunday 14 December to see the Santa Parade

Get into town by 2pm on Sunday to see Santa Claus, his reindeer-ed sleigh and all your favourite characters prance and dance their way through the central city. The parade starts on the corner of Lambton Quay and Ballance Street, then travels along Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Mercer Street and Victoria Street, before ending on Manners Street.

A number of roads in the central city will be closed during the day. It’ll also be very busy, so we recommend taking public transport or walking.

From 3.15–4.30pm, Nick Tansley will host Santa’s After Party in his Pop-Up Carols Caravan in Frank Kitts Park. There’ll be carol singing and loads of entertainment to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Also out and about in the city will be singers, acrobats, jugglers, musicians and dancers, all on a mission to brighten your day.

The libraries are getting on board with the 12 Storytimes of Christmas. Kids can dress up or wear their pyjamas and settle down for Christmas stories, carols and activities at their local library.
