10 more active traffic signs for Wellington schools
30 October 2014
Active traffic signs will soon be installed at 10 more Wellington schools to alert motorists that children are about.
This is part of the Council’s travel planning initiatives to manage traffic around schools.
The signs are installed in pairs and have lights that can be activated by the school when children arrive and when they head home. They can also be operated when classes depart for school trips during the day.
We’ve already installed signs at 12 schools around Wellington, including Evans Bay Intermediate. Principal Wendy Esera says that the signs have helped keep the students safe: “They help to notify drivers of areas and peak times when they need to be more aware of children. Drivers need to expect the unexpected and drive defensively around schools”.
