The Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian Awards honour members of the community who have made outstanding contributions to the Capital.
Jacinta is the driving force behind the Wellington Boys’ and Girls’ Institute Challenge for Change programme, which is a mentoring service that pairs up at-risk or in-need youths with community mentors.
The effort that Jacinta has expended professionally is commendable. Yet the Absolutely Positively Wellingtonian Award also acknowledges Jacinta’s personal dedication to Wellington’s youth.
Recently Jacinta took an 8 year-old boy into her home when his sole caregiver became ill. She gave the child a warm, loving environment when he had nowhere else to go.
“This is just one example of Jacinta going above and beyond the call of duty for the benefit of others,” says Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
“Her commitment to the well-being of vulnerable people in this community is outstanding. She has worked tirelessly on the Challenge for Change mentoring programme, and is equally generous in her personal life.”
The presentation of the Absolutely Positive Wellingtonian Award will take place at the beginning of the full Council meeting, due to begin at 5.30pm, Tuesday 30 September at Council’s Committee Room 1, 101 Wakefield Street.
Photographs will be available for media, as well as copies of Jacinta Krefft’s award citation.
