See St Kilda take on the Brisbane Lions on Anzac Day

Last year St Kilda played the Sydney Swans in Wellington in the first regular season game of Australian rules football played outside Australia, and we are excited to welcome St Kilda back to Wellington for the second year running.

Australian Rules football is a fast-moving, high energy game, with 36 players on the field and lots of action – plenty of spectacular kicking, running and jumping.

For new spectators, it can be daunting at first, but you’ll soon be shouting advice from the stands like a born-and-bred Melbournian!

Unlike our national game, there’s very little stopping and starting in Aussie Rules – a game inspired by the frenetic Irish national game, Gaelic football.

An AFL game on Anzac Day isn’t just a tradition, it has become arguably the biggest day outside the Grand Final on the football calendar.

Following the success of last year’s Anzac Day match in Wellington, the agreement between Wellington City Council and St Kilda to host the annual game has been extended to 2018.

Adult tickets are available from from just $25.

The big AFL match on Friday is just the start of a huge weekend of sport in the capital. Westpac Stadium will revert to a more familiar layout for a Super Rugby clash between the Wellington Hurricanes and the Queensland Reds on Saturday.

Meanwhile at the TSB Arena, the Central Pulse host 2013 finalists the Melbourne Vixens in netball’s ANZ Championship.
