“We are delighted to be a Host City for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015,” says Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, who will launch Wellington’s countdown to the tournament on Thursday 13 February at Midland Park between 12-2pm.
“So many Wellingtonians are passionate about cricket, so we are excited to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the best players and best teams in the world play in our backyard.
“We’ll celebrate the opening of ticket sales by inviting Wellingtonians to come down to Midland Park, practice their cricket skills with our Black Caps, and go in the draw to win tickets.”
Black Caps Grant Elliott and Luke Ronchi will be on hand to offer batting and bowling tips to any CBD workers or youngsters willing to have a go.
The official ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 trophy will be on site and a number of former international cricketers including Gavin Larsen, Sir Richard Hadlee, Dean Jones, Martin Crowe and Sunil Gavaskar will be available for photo opportunities.
During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Wellington will host top matches involving New Zealand, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates teams.
