Christmas Holiday Hours

17 December 2013

There’s just a week to go until the holidays kick in for many of us, including Council staff.

Workers from the Council's tree team.

The Council’s tree team has had a busy year

Most of our staff will be away on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December) and also on New Year’s Day and 2 January.

However, our Contact Centre remains open 24 hours a day, every day, so if you have a problem with your water supply, street cleaning or noise, give us a call on 499 4444. Our Service Centre at 101 Wakefield Street will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on Monday 6 January.

Aside from Christmas Day, all our swimming pools remain open. Hours vary during this time, so please make sure to check our website before heading out for a swim.

And if you plan to spend your holiday time reading, make sure to head along to our libraries before closing hours on Christmas Eve. We also have a huge range of audiobooks, ebooks, DVDs and magazines that could keep you entertained on a rainy day.

As for rubbish collections, the only people affected are those whose rubbish is collected on Wednesdays. If that’s you, put your rubbish and recycling out on the following Friday evening for collection on the Saturday.

Opening hours for our recreation centres, community centres, museums, galleries, zoo, Botanic Garden and Council offices vary, so go to our website.

While things will be quiet at the Council leading up to and just after the New Year, we’ll have a few staff in most of our departments processing consents or keeping our services running.
