Memorial Park Tunnel Walk-through on Sunday
19 November 2013
If you like big cranes and construction sites – or have been wondering what’s happening in Buckle Street – come along this Sunday 24 November and see how the city’s newest tunnel is taking shape.
You’ll be able to walk through the 300m long trench from the Basin Reserve end to Taranaki Street any time between 10am - 1pm and find out more about the underpass and new National War Memorial Park, which will be built on top next year.
The project is being carried out by the Memorial Park Alliance for the New Zealand Transport Agency and the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. We’re investing in the park and working closely with all three organisations to help ensure it is ready for the First World War centenary commemorations in 2015.
Please take a bus or walk if you can, and approach the site from the Basin Reserve end. Parking in the area is limited.
