Subhashi Prasad, who works at the library, says the local Khandallah community is organising the celebration, with the support of the library, to mark the anniversary of its opening in 1953.

“We are very excited to celebrate this significant milestone with the community. One of the highlights of the celebration will be a display of photos that documents the history of the library and the surrounding village.”

Festivities will also include:

  • morning tea and birthday cake in the Khandallah Town Hall
  • face painting
  • tree planting
  • a poet-tree featuring poems written by children from local schools.

The party kicks off at 10.30am and runs till 12.30pm. Staff and members of the public are encouraged to dress up in 50s style, as a tribute to the decade when the library opened.
