The library will close slightly earlier than usual on Saturday 3 August, at 5pm, and reopen at the usual time, 9.30am, on Monday 5 August.
During the closure, the library’s website will be available but online catalogues and databases, library card access, ebooks and downloadable audiobooks will be unavailable. The issues period on items that would have become due on 4 August will be temporarily extended so borrowers won’t incur overdue fines, and items that are already overdue won’t incur extra fines.
The server move is part of Wellington City Council’s project to future-proof the Council’s IT systems in the event of an emergency. The data centre in the Town Hall annex is being moved permanently to IT company Revera’s new purpose-built facility in Trentham and to make way for earthquake-strengthening work on the Town Hall.
This big project, involving the relocation of over 300 systems, started in June and is expected to be completed by the end of August. Most of the relocation is taking place either overnight or at weekends to avoid outages and minimise disruption to the Council’s online services.
All Central Library services will be back to normal from Monday 5 August.
