Home Energy Saver Clocks up 1000
17 June 2013
We’ve recently clocked up 1000 assessments under our home energy saver programme, which is part of our long-term goal for Wellingtonians to be living in warm, dry, healthy homes with affordable energy bills.
Nancy Linton’s home in Ngaio was the 1000th to be assessed. She says the biggest eye-opener was finding out about heat loss through halogen down-lights in the ceiling.
“Most of the lights in our house are halogens, which can’t have ceiling insulation over them because they get too hot. It’s like having holes in your ceiling where the heat can escape. We’ll replace these with energy-efficient lights.”
Through our service provider Home&dry, you’ll get impartial, comprehensive advice on heating, insulation, curtains, lighting, and water use, and a detailed action plan.
Products such as low-flow shower heads, draught excluders and hot-water pipe lagging can also be installed on the spot - the Council will pay 50% of the cost of these up to a total of $115.
