Do you run your own business or work by yourself but want a bit of company? Or are you an artist looking for a space to share so you can bounce ideas off others and reinvigorate that creative spark?

Office Space for Hire at Toi Pōneke.

Toi Poneke has shared spaces like this available to rent

Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and gallery is a creative space for artists and arts businesses and organisations to work, rehearse, exhibit and meet.

Located on Abel Smith Street, it currently has shared spaces available to rent for artists, desktop freelancers and small business owners.

Paora Allen, Toi Pōneke’s manager, says the shared space model provides lots of creative opportunities, and overseas experience shows an upsurge in freelancers sharing office space with other small businesses.

“In America there’s been this real shift to ‘co-working’ spaces. According to a recent article in the New York Times, people were finding working from home alienating whereas a ‘hive’-type working space made freelancers more productive and happy.”

Room rates are just $45 a week for a shared office space with three other people and $50 a week for an artist space for six artists - the fee includes power and shared use of kitchens and communal areas.

Toi Pōneke also has other spaces for hire. If you play music or are in a band, you should check out the three soundproofed music studios. Hire rates start at just $6.50 an hour through to $15 an hour.

There’s also a dance studio with a sprung floor and wall mirrors available to hire for $15 to $25 an hour - or you can join one of the many classes held there.
