Wellington Welcomes The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall

18 September 2012

Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown said the Capital City will warmly welcome The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, when they visit New Zealand 10-16 November.

Today it was announced that the Diamond Jubilee Visit will visit Wellington, Auckland, Manawatu and Christchurch as part of their six-day tour of New Zealand.

Mayor Wade-Brown said that Wellington will ensure Their Royal Highnesses had a memorable and enjoyable visit to Wellington.

"As the Capital of New Zealand and the home of Government, Wellington will have a special significance for our royal visitors," says Mayor Wade-Brown.

The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Council staff have been working closely with the Diamond Jubilee Visit Office to ensure Their Royal Highnesses will remember their time fondly in Wellington.

"The official opening of the Government House Visitor Centre, which is our nation's Diamond Jubilee gift to the Queen, will be a highlight of the New Zealand tour.

"This Visitor Centre will be an important asset to our City, especially as we develop the Capital City Initiative to attract New Zealand school children to Wellington to learn about our nation's history, our government, our culture and our heritage.

"I also look forward to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall enjoying some of Wellington's attractions, such as our beautiful harbour and waterfront," she says.

More details about the visit will be released through the Governor-General's website.
