We will host the third swim in the series, the State Capital Classic, this Sunday (29 January). Swimmers ranging from eight to over 80 years can choose from the State Ocean Kids 200-metre event, the 300-metre, 1-kilometre or 3.3-kilometre swims.

State NZ Ocean Swim Series Event Director Scott Rice says the series brings together top Olympic hopefuls and ordinary swimmers keen to give it a go.

"One Wellington family has three generations registered in this event.

Another proud Dad is swimming with three of his kids - that's what this series is all about," says Scott.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is the charity partner for the series and will be on hand at each event, but if you are a less confident swimmer, you are encouraged to enter one of the shorter distance options. Registrations are open online until midnight this Thursday (26 January).
