Library Book Groups

23 May 2011

Our libraries run two free groups for school-age children - BookBusters for kids aged 7 and 8, and BookSeekers for 9 to 12-year-olds.

BookBusters meet on the first week of each month at the Ruth Gotlieb (Kilbirnie), Johnsonville, Island Bay, Karori and Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) libraries. Kids can hear stories read aloud, take part in games and activities, and talk about the books they're reading. BookBusters earn a certificate after taking part in six sessions, and another after 12.

Once kids graduate from BookBusters, they can move straight on to BookSeekers - held at the Ruth Gotlieb (Kilbirnie), Johnsonville, Brooklyn, Karori and Mervyn Kemp (Tawa) libraries. BookSeekers meet on the second week of each month to share stories and books and have fun with games and challenges. A monthly genre challenge encourages members to read outside their comfort zone and discover new types of stories.

It's easy to join, even if you're not already a library member. All you need to do is pop into one of the participating libraries and fill out a registration form - or just show up at a session and sign up.
