Arts Residency Exchange

16 May 2011

Attention all artists - here's a great opportunity to travel to China as an artist-in-residence.

Artist Kerry Ann Lee spent her residency in Shanghai

The Red Gate Residency is based in Beijing - one of Wellington's sister cities. For two months, the chosen artist will live and work at the heart of Beijing's thriving art scene, alongside Chinese and other international artists.

The residency is funded by the Wellington Asia Residency Exchange - a joint initiative between Wellington City Council and the Asia New Zealand Foundation.

As well as sending artists to China, we also host Asian artists of all disciplines in Wellington.

Artists live at the Bolton Street Cottage and produce work that is often exhibited here before they return home.

Kerry Ann Lee was the first Wellington artist we sent to China, in 2009. Works inspired by her stay in Shanghai are on display at Toi Pōneke Gallery. Da Shi Jie/The Great World: Shanghai Works 2009-2010 closes this Friday (20 May) - so don't miss out.
