Drafting the Annual Plan
8 March 2011
From today, Councillors will discuss the 2011/12 Draft Annual Plan. The Annual Plan outlines how much we're going to spend on the city's services, and sets the rates for the coming financial year.
The annual plan sets the rates for the next financial year
We face significant budgetary pressures from depreciation costs, higher than forecast inflation, and also from the $88m that we have committed to contributing to the cost of repairing leaky buildings.
In a bid to keep the rates increase to a minimum, we've trimmed costs internally, recommended some fee increases and modest reductions to some of our services.
This is what Councillors will debate today, and for the next few days. The meetings - which are open to the public - are taking place at the Te Mahanga Room (Committee Room 1) at our offices on Wakefield Street.
We'll carry out a public consultation on the proposed changes, which will begin on Monday 11 April 2011.
