Lower Speed Limits in Kelburn & Brooklyn

22 October 2010

We're proposing to reduce the speed limit in Brooklyn and Kelburn shopping areas from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. This is part of our initiative to lower the speed limit in the city's suburban shopping areas over the next four years.

We're proposing a lower speed limit in Kelburn's shopping centre

So far, a 30 km/h speed limit has been introduced to Tinakori Road, Aro Valley, Island Bay and Kilbirnie shopping areas.

We're looking at introducing 30 km/h speed limits in Kelburn on part of Upland Road, and in Brooklyn on parts of Cleveland Street, OhiroRoad, Todman Street and the entire length of Jefferson and Harrison streets.

If community support is strong for the proposal and Councillors approve the changes, the new speed limits should be in place by July next year.
