Willis Street Works Complete

6 September 2010

High heel wearers can stride up Willis Street with confidence again, as the paving is complete on this part of the new bus route through the central city. Works have been completed as far as the intersection with Manners Street where changes are being made to the corner so buses can turn into and out of Willis Street.

The roading and footpath changes still under way in Manners Street and in Manners Mall will allow buses to travel in both directions along the same route - recreating a modern-day version of the city's original Golden Mile bus and tram route.

Buses are expected to begin using the shorter, more direct public transport spine at the end of November. A new shared public space will be developed in lower Cuba Street next year, improving pedestrian links between the waterfront, Civic Square and Cuba Mall.

Take care around the work sites and don't let the barriers and artificial grass put you off visiting your favourite shops and food outlets.

The contractors are trying to keep noise levels down between 12 noon and 2.00pm to assist local businesses.
