Evans Bay Intermediate pupils and their 'Legend of Wellington Harbour' artwork
The competition, organised to raise awareness in schools of the sport centre's development, saw students supplied with 1200mm x 1200mm plywood boards and paint and asked to illustrate one of two themes - "The Legend of Wellington harbour" or "Being active in the community".
The winning entries, from the primary (Evans Bay Intermediate) and secondary school categories (Wellington High School), received $2,500 each for their school. The judging panel included Mayor Kerry Prendergast, Troy McLean (captain of the Exodus Saints Basketball Team), and Dave O'Donovan (Mainzeal general manager).
Project Manager Jim Coard said the standard of artwork was impressive.
"We wanted to get schools involved by adding colour to the site while giving students the opportunity to learn more about this great addition to the city's community sports and recreation facilities.
"We supplied the art materials and the students supplied the inspiration!"
All the artworks entered will be displayed around the edges of the site in late September.
