Applications for the next general grants round are due at the end of October, and anyone wanting to put on an event or activity during Rugby World Cup 2011 will need to get their skates on.

There are three cultural grants pools every year for arts / cultural / events organisations. This time, we have allocated extra money out of the yearly pool into this next round of grants - the round that could ultimately fund a lot of activities during Rugby World Cup 2011.

The Council's Grants Manager, Jenny Rains, says she anticipates a lot of interest from organisations over the next month, "so we'll give people an extra hand in developing their applications for this round".

The Council's Strategic Events Manager, Andy Scotland, has certain types of acts and events in mind.

"What we're aiming for at the moment is a type of 'Festival Carnivale' that will run from 9 September right through to 23 October - so that's a long stint.

"We're looking for events or activities that showcase the city's culture, heritage and diversity for the thousands of tourists who'll be here during that time," says Andy.
