Applications are now open for a free 10-month residency at the centre. This includes having your own artist studio, a free exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery at the end of your residency and $1,000 towards materials for the exhibition.

The residency programme started this time last year, and is a joint venture between DEBLYN Property Ltd and Toi Pōneke Arts Centre.

The current artist-in-residence, Shane McGrath, is now working on his forthcoming exhibition - due to take place this November. He says he's enjoyed his time there.

"The other artists in Toi Pōneke are a great bunch - friendly, creative and inclusive. I've always had others to discuss ideas with, be it mine or theirs, and I've made many friends in the process," he says.

The next residency programme starts in February 2011. The closing date for applications is Monday 13 September.
